Faces of CTE: Jimena Vargas
Jimena Vargas
Jimena is a Senior at Grayslake Central high school, studying Medical Assisting at the Tech Campus with hopes of one day becoming a nurse. As a part of #CTEMonth, she shared part of her story.
“I really want to be a nurse next year for my first semester of college, and I thought this was a really good start to be able to have an idea of what it is like to be in a doctor’s office and being with patients,” Jimena said.
In Medical Assisting, Jimena and the other students learn how to read vital signs and work with medical equipment in a lab setting.
“I’m learning how to do it all correctly,” Jimena said. “And I’m figuring out to diagnose certain things and how to treat the patients.”
Ms. Vargas was recently accepted to Loyola University in Chicago, but is still debating next steps after high school.
“I’m still looking at schools going over options, and going into either nursing or biology, and ROTC as well,” Jimena said.
While her college decision still hangs in the air, one thing is for certain: Jimena will work to give assistance to those who need it in the future.
“Tech has helped me discover that I truly love nursing and that I want to help people when I can in the future.”
