PowerSchool Breach Updates

To Whom it May Concern,

The Lake County Tech Campus has been using PowerSchool, our Student Information System (SIS), since 2016. On January 7, 2025, we were informed that on December 28, 2024, PowerSchool became aware of potential unauthorized access to certain information through one of their customer support portals, PowerSource. Following an internal investigation, PowerSchool determined that an unauthorized party used compromised credentials to access certain SIS customer data, including some belonging to the Tech Campus.

From the outset, PowerSchool reported that they activated their cybersecurity response protocols, assembled a cross-functional response team (including third-party cybersecurity experts and senior leadership), and notified law enforcement. PowerSchool has assured us that they have contained the incident and have no evidence of malware or ongoing unauthorized activity in their environment. They also do not believe the compromised data has been shared or made public, and they’ve taken measures to prevent any further unauthorized access.

In the coming days, PowerSchool will issue formal legal notices to current and former students (or their parents/guardians) and educators whose information was determined to be involved. Additionally, Experian will send direct email notifications on PowerSchool’s behalf to individuals with sufficient contact information. PowerSchool will also launch a dedicated website and distribute a media release to ensure potentially affected individuals have access to resources for protecting their information. These notices will include instructions on how to enroll in credit monitoring and identity protection services offered by PowerSchool.
