Director's Letter:
Dear Student:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a necessary part of a comprehensive education that prepares student to enter a workplace where 80% of the jobs require CTE and some post-secondary training. It is the critical education component of the workforce that provides planned study for career awareness, relevant workplace skills, and career-specific preparation for all learners in the k-16 educational system. It is charged with developing the rigorous academic and occupational programs that prepare future workers.
In Illinois 60% or over 348,000 students are enrolled in high school CTE courses. These focused, motivated students are tomorrow’s well-trained workforce. Illinois labor projections indicate a significant increase in jobs for which CTE could provide the foundation. By 2010 only 21.8% of jobs will require a full degree according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a proven resource for talent, energy and skill. Our teachers, by the nature of their industry training and experience, have the expertise to provide students with experiences that teach how to be competitive and how to speak the language of business. To meet these demands, both employers and students are looking for effective alternatives to the traditional classroom environment; we think the Technology Campus is just that alternative.
Our mission at the Tech Campus is to enhance the instructional program improvement of career and technical education programs by aligning lessons with the Illinois Learning Standards, content-specific National Standards, Workplace Skills, and Occupational Skills Standards. The major purpose of skill standards and credentialing systems is to promote education and training and insure that this training enables our students to meet industry standards that are benchmarked to the major international competitors. Given these purposes, CTE has major benefits that impact high school students in Illinois.
Please come visit our campus and see why “Tech is Good”!
